The Boy Who Kicked Pigs - Return to London

Happy New Year to all my readers and welcome to any newcomers who may be chancing upon this blog for the very first time. Ironically, I'm kicking off 2014 with a brief return to a subject I touched upon on several occasions last year - Kill The Beast Theatre Company and their production of The Boy Who Kicked Pigs.

I first blogged about The Boy Who Kicked Pigs during its run at Jackson Lane in London, returning to the matter subsequently for its Edinburgh Festival Kickstarter campaign and finally in my three picks for the Festival itself. Now the show is returning to London once more, to the Pleasance Theatre in Islington, for two performances in exactly three weeks' time.

In case you're not familiar with the show, The Boy Who Kicked Pigs is based on the cult novel of the same number by former Doctor Who Tom Baker. It's a strange, gruesome nightmarey involving shark mutilation, weedkiller cornflakes and possibly the end of the world, with a host of bizarre and amusing characters, headed up by its murderous protagonist Robert Caligari (pictured at the top). If you're a fan of surrealist art and have a dark sense of humour, make this one of the first shows you see in 2014.

The Boy Who Kicked Pigs is at the Pleasance Theatre in Islington on Thursday January 23rd and Friday January 24th, with both shows starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are £12 and are available from the theatre website here. And if that doesn't sate your appetite for the gruesome and barbaric - my full review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be along very soon...
