PhoniCon is Coming!

Through my involvement with Phonic FM, Exeter's community radio station, I've covered a great deal of weird and wonderful local events. But the event I'd like to talk about today is going to take some beating, especially in the latter category.
On Sunday April 7th (that's less than a month from now), the Exeter Phoenix is playing host to PhoniCon, a fantastic new one-day convention hosting the very best in sci-fi and fantasy for all the family. Whether you've never seen Star Wars or are fluent in Klingon, you'll find a great deal going on that will inspire and entertain you. And best of all, all the profits raised from the convention go towards keeping Phonic FM going for another five years!

The convention opens its doors at 10am, and will include the following:
  • Special Guests, including Doctor Who companion Anneke Wills and current voice of the Daleks Nicholas Pegg
  • Film screenings, featuring the very best in independent film-making and an appearance by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society
  • Cosplaying courtesy of Exe Wing, Southern Troopers and the Scarey Knights
  • Live Music in the Voodoo Lounge, including a young singer-songwriter called Tom Baker...
  • The Geekmaster General's Superquiz from 6pm
  • Nik Box's Dead Good Horror Night, showcasing the best in independent genre movies and Q&As with the people who made themlly great local and independent traders offering all the nerdy collectables you could ever want.
  • Merchandise galore, and much much more!

PhoniCon is the brainchild of Simon Brett, designer, illustrator and co-presenter of The Phonic Screwdriver, a monthly show on Phonic FM dedicated to all things sci-fi. It's going to be an amazing event, and you need to be there on April 7th!

Tickets for PhoniCon are £12 for adults, £8 for concessions, or £25 for a family ticket of 2 adults and 2 children. They can be purchased from the official website, phonicon.org.uk, or via the Exeter Phoenix box office here. See you there!
